The EIS and Yakult form nutrition partnership

The English Institute of Sport (EIS) and Yakult announce a new partnership as the company is named a Preferred Performance Nutrition Supplier to the high performance sports institute.

The organisations share a strong commitment to scientific research and will collaborate further with research and insights into the gut microbiota, as well as enhancing education and awareness around the importance of gut health.

The EIS boasts a 22-strong Performance Nutrition team whose members are embedded in almost 40 high performance sports with the aim of supporting athletes to make informed food and drink choices to positively impact their biochemistry.

Yakult is a fermented milk drink full of bacteria that is scientifically proven to reach the gut alive. Each bottle contains at least 20 billion of a unique strain of bacteria, L. casei Shirota.

Mike Naylor, Head of Performance Nutrition at the EIS, said: “​We’re delighted to welcome Yakult as a Preferred Performance Nutrition Supplier to the EIS. We’ve had a great relationship with the Yakult team for a long time, and this is a really exciting progression of that relationship. Good gut health is hugely important in enabling athletes to perform at their best due to its positive impact on a number of areas including the immune system and general well-being.

Both organisations place immense importance on science and Yakult bring a huge wealth of research and insight in this area, which will contribute to our aim of matching the appropriate nutrition intervention to the determinants of successful performance.”

Our founder, the Japanese scientist Dr Shirota, spent many years investigating microorganisms before developing Yakult and later setting up the Yakult Central Institute. As a result, we have over 85 years of scientific research.

It is a great validation to see our dedication to science appreciated by top experts in the field of high performance nutrition. We have had a close working relationship with the English Institute of Sport for years and we are very excited about what this next step in our collaboration will bring.’
