It’s A Full House For The WSTA’s Largest Ever Event.

11 October, 19

Tickets for the Wine and Spirit Trade Association’s ‘Brexit Preparedness’ event were snapped up in just 12 days as concern within the industry grows that businesses won’t be ready for No Deal.

Following on from the publication of the trade’s most extensive Brexit guide ‘Planning for a No Deal EU Exit’, earlier this year, the WSTA applied to the BEIS readiness fund for cash to put on a follow-up Brexit seminar – which is open to members and non-members alike.

After securing grant funding from Government, the WSTA is hosting a free bumper Brexit seminar in a bid to help businesses understand how to import and export alcohol post-Brexit.

All 250 tickets have been snapped up in record time as businesses, particularly SME’s, feel the pressure of the complex implications of exiting the EU without a deal.

Miles Beale, Chief Executive of the Wine and Spirit Trade Association, said:

“The grant from BEIS is very welcome so that we can help the industry prepare in these last few weeks before 31 October when the UK is due to leave the EU. We have had to spend an enormous amount of time helping our members ensure that the UK wine and spirit trade was prepared for a no deal Brexit, however there is still a strong feeling within the trade that they are about to be pushed over a cliff edge and into the unknown.

“We continually engage with Government to make sure they understand the consequences for businesses upon leaving the EU without a deal. While this event won’t mitigate the full impact of leaving without a deal, we hope it will help ease some concerns and allow businesses to be as prepared as they can be in case we leave the EU without a deal.

“We have had confirmation of a 0% tariff rate for wine only very recently – whilst this is good news, we are still no clearer on whether, as we have called on Government to ensure, import certification requirements will be suspended.

“The aim of this seminar is to help the businesses the WSTA represents, as well as non-members, tackle this challenge head on so that the industry – worth £49 billion to the UK economy – will continue to thrive in a post-Brexit world.”

The free one-day event is being held at 116 Pall Mall on Friday, 18 October 2019.

The agenda has been designed to provide a one-stop-shop to ensure drinks businesses can understand complex changes in the event of a No Deal EU Exit, with a focus on:

Moving from CHIEF to CDS
Import and Export processes (EMCS, CTC, tariffs, commodity codes, excise and non-excise goods)
Holding and Movements (excise vs customs warehousing, IPR, guarantees)

The WSTA is calling on anyone who has a ticket but can no longer attend, to please cancel your ticket to allow someone else to take up the place.

For those who have missed out on a ticket the event will be filmed and made available for free online.
